Reckless Launch Winners!

A Reckless Launch!

    by Anna Campbell

Scene: The Bandit War Cabinet Room which is even further underground than the Writers Deadline Cave which featured in all its fiendish glory in Christine's launch at the beginning of the month.

We interrupt this bulletin to bring you an important message!

PLAGIARISM GURU: This is looking suspiciously like Christine's launch!

SHEEPISH AUTHOR (NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH ROOSTERISH BANDITA): Um...

PG: Is that all you've got to say for yourself?

SA: Well, not really! I've got a whole launch post ahead of me. It would be a bit sad if I stopped now, wouldn't it?

PG: Don't play clever with me, Bandita!

SA: No, sir! I'd just like to point out that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

    PG: Tell that to Madam!

    SA: I will! OOH, CHRISTEEEEEEEEEEEEEN!!!!!

We interrupt this message to return to our original message.

    So where was I?

That's right the Bandit War Cabinet Room where all the REALLY fiendish plans are hatched.

Oh, no, now the rooster is keen on coming down. He thinks a hatchery means some hot chicks.

    Down, boy!

Anyway, as you can see, it's party central down here. Just look at this embarrassing photo of the hijinks on our New Year's Eve party in 1943! And we can promise you more of the same tonight, oh, yessirreeeee! Batten down those hatches! Iron those hankies! Match those socks!

Speaking of embarrassing! There's been a major hitch in our planning for today's launch of the new Anna Campbell opus MY RECKLESS SURRENDER!

Oy, oy, oy! And assorted other Bandita cries of despair! Including the famous Ai Caramba! And "Demetrius, what are you doing with that sword?"

It turns out the top secret documents, essential for today's mayhem, have been diverted to Africa. We need to get them OUT OF AFRICA!!! Snort. Feel the urge to break into a Danish pastry!

What are we to do? What are we to do?

We interrupt this broadcast purely to interrupt this broadcast...

Oh, get lost! No time for jokes when our launch is going haywire!

Anna Campbell runs around like a chook with her head cut off.

Oh, no, the rooster just keeled over in shock!

Not you, GR! Just a generic chook!

    A GENERIC CHOOK, I SAID!

Lordy, why is everyone I work with a drama parrot?

Anyway, the Bandita War Cabinet has issued this press release:

In the absence of detailed plans for today's launch, we turn in desperation to you, Banditas and Bandita Buddies! Give us three reckless things to do in the lair today to celebrate the release of MY RECKLESS SURRENDER!

The best suggestions will win one of THREE signed copies of MY RECKLESS SURRENDER! Unless the books have gone to Africa too.

    What's that? They have!!!!

But I have it on good authority that the books are walking like an Egyptian and they at least will be here for distribution before the end of the night!

STOP PRESS: A shipment of naked Regency rakes has been captured off the shores of Tripoli by roving renegade Banditas. And they will soon be here to assist in any nefarious plans!

So come on, people, give us some nefarious plans! Otherwise we'll have to put the rakes in the shed!

Getting to the Bottom of Things!

    by Anna Campbell

I went looking for a line of nice male rear ends to illustrate this post - and do you know what? I couldn't find one! Plenty of girls but no guys! Clearly we need to man (or woman!) the barricades of sexual equality, girls!

Anyway, I thought the elephants illustrated my point well enough although nowhere near as prettily!

Actually this isn't anything about nicely shaped rear ends! It's about taking your story to its most basic elements so when people ask you about it, you can answer them without stuttering or spending an hour recounting the whole plot. I've tried that - the glazed eyes have to be seen to be believed!

By the way, stop press, thanks to Avon, I've got another ARC to give away today! Yes, comment on this post and you can win an advance reader copy of MY RECKLESS SURRENDER! Get commenting, people!

Double stop press! I couldn't find a line but I did find a very nice single example of getting to the bottom of things! For your viewing pleasure, ladies!

Just recently a friend of mine emailed me in a panic because she needed an article for a newsletter and for various reasons that were nobody's fault, the person she'd lined up couldn't do it. Could I help? I was having the day from the proverbial but because she's a friend, I put something quick together about MY RECKLESS SURRENDER.

And I realized that sometimes it helps not to over-think stuff!

One of the wonderful things about promoting CAPTIVE OF SIN, my last book, was that just before it came out, I worked out that it was a classic marriage of convenience story in Regency noir guise. Nice little soundbite to deliver when people asked - and intriguing enough to get readers interested in the story which is just what you want.

MY RECKLESS SURRENDER is about a dangerous seduction in Regency London which is an OK description as far as it goes but I want something to draw a reader in. I stewed and stewed about what I could say about this book - we all know the popular themes in romance. Secret baby. Cinderella (actually there's elements of that in this story). Marriage of convenience. Revenge plot. Fish out of water. Friends into lovers. There's a stack of them - and I think we've covered most of them in Bandita blogs at some stage.

Anyway, writing this piece for my friend while juggling various tradesmen (none of whom looked like the guy in the photo, sadly!), I sat down to do a quick description of MY RECKLESS SURRENDER and I automatically described it as a 'ticking bomb romance'.

Diana Carrick makes a deal with the devil which will give her everything she’s ever wanted. To make her dreams come true, she agrees to commit what she believes is a victimless crime and seduce the notorious rake Tarquin Vale, the Earl of Ashcroft.

But of course, there's no such thing as a victimless crime...

Tarquin and Diana find themselves caught in a liaison that is nothing like either expected and which plumbs dangerously profound emotional depths. With every moment, Diana is trapped more inescapably between her deception and her growing love for this man who is nothing like the careless, heartless rake she expected. Her secrets threaten to destroy both of them, but she’s gone too far now to retreat.

I love ticking bomb plots! You know, the ones where the readers know more than either the hero or heroine and are just waiting on tenterhooks for that moment of revelation where everything blows sky high. Then of course, the characters need to gird their loins (nothing like that moment when the characters gird their loins!) and deal with the fall-out which takes all their courage and strength and love. Great high-stakes romance!

I’ve seen my first review for MY RECKLESS SURRENDER and it’s a beauty. Romantic Times Book Reviews chose the book as a June Top Pick and called the story ‘enthralling’, ‘complex’ and ‘passionate’ and finished the review by saying “Quite a book!”

Clearly they like ticking bomb romance plots too!

So thinking back over one of the books you've read recently, how would you describe the story at its most basic level? For example, Annie West's wonderful FORGOTTEN MISTRESS, SECRET LOVE-CHILD (which recently hit the USA Today list - huzzah!) is an amnesia/secret baby story with a dash of Cinderella thrown in. CLAIMING THE COURTESAN is Beauty and the Beast. Christine's debut SCANDAL'S DAUGHTER is friends into lovers. So how would you describe your recent reading?

Don't forget there's an ARC of MY RECKLESS SURRENDER, now christened a ticking bomb romance, up for grabs! Good luck!Source URL: http://idontwanttobeanythingotherthanme.blogspot.com/search/label/My%20Reckless%20Surrender

ARC-itectural Treasures

    by Anna Campbell

    Yes, it's that time again!

My next Avon historical romance MY RECKLESS SURRENDER is out on 25th May! Less than two months away.

By the way, you can pre-order the book just by clicking on the cover. Same goes for the other books I've mentioned in this blog. We're all into user friendly here in the lair (especially when it comes to the cabana boys!).

Don't you just love that cover? I think it's absolutely luscious! And that come-hither look in my heroine's eyes is just right for the rather naughty Diana Carrick! Especially when she's come-hithering the rakish Earl of Ashcroft.

    STOP PRESS!

THE NEWS TODAY IS THAT I HAVE AN ARC OF MY RECKLESS SURRENDER TO GIVE AWAY TO ONE OF OUR BANDITA BUDDIES!

I'm hoping someone here will surrender recklessly to the desire to comment and win it! Good luck!

Here's the gorgeous Aussie cover for MRS! Doesn't that just take your breath away?

I'm sure you've seen the American back cover blurb for MY RECKLESS SURRENDER. If not, you can read it here: http://www.annacampbell.info/recklesssurrender.html And please check out the excerpt while you're there!

The Aussies are doing things differently (that's just part of our independent, pioneering spirit, yanno?) and I really like their blurb tooI've never had a dual-continent simultaneous release before. It's pretty exciting.

June is gonna be a big month chez Campbell:

A passionate tale brimming with lust, tenderness and betrayal from Anna Campbell, the queen of Regency noir.

Diana Carrick has very good reasons to seduce Tarquin Vale, Earl of Ashcroft. None of which she intends to share with the notorious rake. But instead of the selfish, jaded debaucher she expects, Diana discovers a man unlike any other, and even the dangerous secret she must protect cannot shield her from his dark allure.

The scandalous earl wearies of easy conquests and empty pleasures. When the mysterious Diana suggests an affair to while away a few summer weeks, he’s intrigued and becomes increasingly and powerfully drawn to Diana’s mix of innocence and passion..

Unwittingly yet most willingly, they are playing with fire. Now the fuse has been lit and there’s no escape … except surrender.

I thought to get conversation going, we'd play a little game. It's one we've played before and it's a regular on the Australian Romance Readers Association loop. But it's always fun and we're all such readers, it's pretty easy!

OK, just tell me three things:

The book you finished most recently.

The book you are currently reading.

The book you'll pick up next.

To get the ball rolling, here are my answers:

LAST: WHAT REMAINS OF HEAVEN by C.S. Harris (fabulous, I am in love with Sebastian St. Cyr, Viscount Devlin. He's a delicious mixture of the man of action and brain box, and he's so adorably tortured).

CURRENTLY: FORBIDDEN by Christina Phillips (OK, this is a bit of a gloat. It's an ARC of Aussie writer Christina's wonderful debut, an erotic historical set in Roman Britain. Those men in skirts sure could do the hula! Keep an eye out for FORBIDDEN from Berkley on 7th September! )

NEXT: KISMET by Monica Burns (I've been manfully keeping my hands off this one for a couple of weeks because I know when I start it, I won't stop. A courtesan and a sheikh? Sounds like my idea of heaven!)

So let's play! And one lucky person will get an advance reader copy of my next release MY RECKLESS SURRENDER! Best of Aussie luck to you all!Source URL: http://idontwanttobeanythingotherthanme.blogspot.com/search/label/My%20Reckless%20Surrender

My Reckless Cover!

    by Anna Campbell

    LOOK! LOOK! LOOK!

I have a cover for my June 2010 release, MY RECKLESS SURRENDER!

Isn't it sexy? And that yellow just pops! This is going to look fabulous on the shelves of a bookstore!

I love the tagline too -

Seduction is a most dangerous game...

Yet her heart begs her to be reckless!

She has rather a come-hither look in her eyes, hasn't she? Something completely appropriate for the character. My heroine gets to be quite a naughty girl in this story - as you can probably tell from that steamy stepback with all the bare flesh. And he's pretty tsssss hot too, isn't he? Clearly, being reckless has its rewards.

    Here's the blurb:

    Headlong into sin...

A well-practiced rake, weary of easy conquests and empty pleasures, Tarquin Vale, Earl of Ashcroft, knows women—and his every instinct warns him to beware of this one. Diana Carrick’s brazen overtures have thrown the haunted, sinfully handsome lord completely off his guard. Why, the exquisite temptress stated outright that she wishes to be his lover! But it is neither Diana’s boldness nor her beauty that intrigues him so—it is the innocence he senses behind her worldly mask.

Intent upon the seduction that will finally free her, Diana has set her sights on the notorious Ashcroft—never dreaming that there is much more to the enigmatic rogue than sin and deviltry. His kiss is bewitching, his caress intoxicating—and even the dangerous secret Diana must protect cannot shield her from Ashcroft’s dark allure.

Unwittingly yet most willingly, they are playing with fire. Now the fuse has been lit and there is no escape…except surrender.

You can read an excerpt on my website. Check it out!

And while you're there, why not enter this month's contest which gives you a chance to win a signed trade paperback Aussie edition of one of my books? The question's really easy. Believe me, if you've seen this blog, you'll KNOW the answer, snork!

As has often been pointed out, the Banditas have been REALLY lucky with the cover gods. I think this is another one to add to the roll! You'll notice this is my first cover to feature a girl on her own. In fact, this cover to me is reminiscent of Christine and Donna's more recent releases. Definitely the glint in the heroine's eyes is something all of them have in common!

So what do you like to see on a cover? A clinch? An object of relevance to the story? A girl on her own? A guy on his own? An animal (I love Kate's cats!)? Does the cover ever convince you to buy the book?

    And hey, don't you think
MY RECKLESS SURRENDER's cover is indeed magnificent? LOL!
