Happy Easter And Maximum Joy

I'm not sure that this song is related to Easter, in any way, but it certainly has a good news, celebration theme to it. It doesn't hurt that it is from Frankie Goes to Hollywood. Frankie say, Happy Easter!

On glory day we'll get the gifts of heaven
All around you hope and joy
Can you feel that maximum joy
Rolling around like a brand new boy
    Rain and sunshine from heaven
Feel the wonder of sun rain and thunder
    Unravelling life's mysteries
    Free at last
Let dreamers dream and lovers leap
I pray for you our souls to keep
    Free at last
I will catch and keep you like a rainbow in my room
And tie you to a star that's rising, dancing on the moonSource URL: http://idontwanttobeanythingotherthanme.blogspot.com/search/label/pop%20culture

Welcome To The Pleasuredome

Featuring the "sound on sound" of Trevor Horn. This song still blows my mind, and sends shivers down my spine, almost three decades later. Holly Johnson and Paul Rutherford had the perfectly complementary voices.

    Xanadu - Kubla Khan
a poem by Samuel Taylor Coleridge

    In Xanadu did Kubla Khan
    A stately pleasure-dome decree:
Where Alph, the sacred river, ran
    Through caverns measureless to man
    Down to a sunless sea.

I much prefer the (above) Holly Johnson version of Welcome To The Pleasuredome. However, the live, Ryan Mulloy version, below, captures the totality of the song.

In particular, listen for the dulcimer sound at about 7:15:

    A damsel with a dulcimer
In a vision once I saw:
    It was an Abyssinian maid,
And on her dulcimer she played,

Two Tribes

    Above everything else,
The American people want leaders who will keep the peace.
Henry Cabot Lodge and I keep the peace.
    No, Mr. Kruschev.
    No firm diplomacy.
No peace for America and the World.

And this is the day to proclaim our faith!
I believe that limited nuclear war can work.
The air attack warning sounds like:
    This is the sound.
When you hear the air attack warning,
You and your family must take cover immediately.

    Let's go! Oh,
When two tribes go to war,
A point is all that you can score.
    (Score no more)
When two tribes go to war,
A point is all that you can score.
    (Working for the black gas)
Cowboy Number One: A born-again poor man's son.
On the air, America, I modeled shirts by Van Heusen.
    (Working for the black gas)

    Hit 'em more!
When two tribes go to war,
A point is all that you can score.
    (Score no more)
When two tribes go to war
A point is all that you can score.
    (Working for the black gas)
Switch off your shield; switch off and feel!
I'm working on lovin', yea; givin' you back the good times.
    Ship it out!
(I`m working for the black gas)

(Tell the world that your winning, love and life)

    Listen to the voice sing "follow me";
Listen to the voice sing "follow me".

    Oh no!
When two tribes go to war,
A point is all that you can score.
    We`ve got two tribes!
(We've got the bomb! We've got the bomb!)
Yea, sock it to me biscuits now.

Are we living in a land,
    Where sex,
    And horror,
    Are the New Gods?

When two tribes go to war,
A point is all that you can score.Source URL: http://idontwanttobeanythingotherthanme.blogspot.com/search/label/pop%20culture
