THURSDAY IN THE GARDEN WITH DANTE AND DYLAN

Normally, the Thursday garden spot is strictly Dante's, but today he has his friend and brother, Dylan helping him out.  Dylan doesn't really aspire to being a gardener, but he always likes to tag along with Dante whenever he can.

We first find the brothers stalking a squirrel.  They are side by side in the garden, between the two trees -- a sunset maple and a crabapple tree.  Both of these are dwarf trees which are better suited to a backyard because they won't get overgrown.

You will note that the grass is rather sparse in the area surrounding the trees.  It's hard to grow grass there because of the shade from the trees.  Dante has suggested to Daddy that he try some premium grass seed again, but he has to wait until the weather is warm enough.  We still have frost warnings!

Dylan hunkers down to try to CATmouflage himself, but the grass is just too thin.

The evil squirrel just laughs at him from the branches of the tree.

Dante also watches from the opposite side, but he too cannot hide his bright red fur from the keen eyes of his prey.

The earth here is patchy with grass.  Dante takes note of this to show Daddy later, so he'll know to spread some grass seed here as well.

So, Dante decides to linger a while for ornamental PURRposes, but he can't stay there forever.

Here Dante has moved on to the grass at the side of the house.  Look how long and lush it is!  It gets plenty of sun, here, and seems to be very healthy.

Dylan joins him, and shows just how long the grass is in this part of the yard by sitting smack dab in the middle of it.

Although Dante really enjoys the look and feel of the long grass, he knows that Daddy needs to cut it.

Grasses not only look good, but they taste good, too -- especially when they're nice and healthy like these ones.  Even a cat needs his greens now and then.

Dylan agrees whole-heartedly.  He kind of likes the dandelions, too -- they're so pretty!  But Dante has told him they're just weeds.

So, it's clear there's work to be done in the back yard to fix it up.  Some grasses are too sparse, and some grasses are too long.  Let's just hope the weather warms up so Dante and Daddy can plant more seeds where they're needed.  And that the rain holds off, so Dante can supervise Daddy when he cuts the lawn.
