From the Library: Happy Birthday Gustav Holst!

Today on thap gump's Main stream, we salute the English composer Gustav Holst who was born on September 21, 1874 in Cheltenham, England.  Holst is probably best known for his composition "The Planets", as well as his English Folk Songs Suites, however we intend for today's program to take you beyond these ubiquitous works into his pieces that are not as well known.  The program also includes music from two other sets of composers: the composers that Holst himself claimed had the greatest influence on him (Mendelssohn, Grieg and Wagner) and the composers that were his contemporaries, such as his close friend Ralph Vaughan-Williams.

thap gump produces this program in conjunction with the Alexandrian Free Library Consortium of Second Life. You can listen to the program now at http://main.radioriel.org. Today's music originates from the music library of Gabrielle Riel.

For more information on the Alexandrian Free Library, current exhibits and the work of Consortium members in general, please visit the Alexandrian Free Library website, or one of their branches in-world.Source URL: http://idontwanttobeanythingotherthanme.blogspot.com/2010/09/from-library-happy-birthday-gustav.html
