This past weekend was Diwali, a Hindu festival of lights and one of the most festively celebrated days of the year in India. And in honor of Diwali, Monday Night World Music tonight brings you a great selection of the music of Bollywood and other great danceable Indian sounds.
If you've never heard Indian popular music this is a great chance to hear some of the best music in the world. And if you have heard it, you know why I say so! The ear-catching, foot-tapping music of Bollywood (a catch-all term for the mainstream Hindi-language movie industry) blends traditional Indian sounds with everything from big-band jazz to rock-and-roll - and then some - to create an addictive, uniquely Indian style.
