From the Library - Antonio Vivaldi

Composer, priest, and virtuoso violinist, today marks the 333rd birthday of Antonio Vivaldi. Born in Venice, Vivaldi is recognized as one of the greatest Baroque composers, and his influence during his lifetime was widespread over Europe. His best known work is a series of violin concertos known as The Four Seasons.

In honour of his birthday, today's From the Library features music from the Baroque period with performances by modern groups such as the Bezdin Ensemble, The Sarasa Ensemble, Richard Savino and Janine Jansen. Music of Vivaldi's contemporaries such as Bach, Purcell and Handel is also included.

From the Library is produced by thap gump in conjunction with the Alexandrian Free Library Consortium of Second Life. You can listen to the programme now in-world at http://music.radioriel.org, or click one of the buttons below. Today's programme is presented by Edward Pearse.
