From the Library: Happy Birthday Claude Debussy!

August 22, 2010 marks the 148th Anniversary of the birth of one of the most influential composers of all time: Claude Debussy.  Today's program on thap gump's Main stream is a tribute to Debussy in which we feature not only his works, but the music of the 20th Century composers whom he influenced.

The inspiration from Debussy's groundbreaking work affected not only Modern Classical music composers, but also Jazz composers.  Because of this you will hear a mélange of music today, from Erik Satie to Thelonius Monk.  From Igor Stravinky to George Gershwin.  From Pierre Boulez to Herbie Hancock. Then add in some "Art of Noise".  We hope you enjoy this wide variety of music that all stems from the genius of Claude Debussy.

thap gump produces this program in conjunction with the Alexandrian Free Library Consortium of Second Life. You can listen to the program now at http://main.radioriel.org. Today's music originates from the music library of Gabrielle Riel.
